what to expect
All groups go for 3 hours and are run by a Registered Nurse with post-graduate qualifications in Child and Family Health.
This includes an education session and time to meet other parents. We understand that getting ready with a baby is unpredictable so we allow some time before the ‘official’ session starts for you to arrive and settle in.
Questions are encouraged.
An exercise mat may be provided for you to sit on with your baby or we may ask you to bring your own. There is plenty of room for your baby to play with some toys on the mat.
There is access to a kitchen if you need to heat up a bottle and we can help you get comfortable if you need to breastfeed.
The venues all have different room sizes so if you are able to leave your pram in the car please do so. We do understand that your baby won’t sleep to our timetable so if you need your pram for your baby to sleep in we can make it work.
If you are unable to attend a session face to face, all groups are live on Zoom so you don’t miss out. You will need to download the Zoom app before the start of your group.
An eBook/pdf will be emailed to you before the course starts and that will include all the information from the session as well as some tips and resources.
If you are hosting a group a travel fee of $50 will apply if you are further than 25km from Bridgewater.

INTRODUCING SOLIDS
Learn all about the when, what, where and how of introducing solids. This is an interactive session and you will be sent a handout after the group has finished.

SLEEP & SETTLING - 0 TO 3 MONTHS
As your baby transitions to life outside the cosy environment they’ve been used to, learn how to support them so they can sleep safely and securely. How to wrap your baby, what sleeping bags to use and how to ensure the sleep environment is safe for your baby will all be covered in this session.

SLEEP & SETTLING - 4 TO 5 MONTHS
As your baby becomes more aware of what’s going on around them and they start to roll learn how to settle them safely and help them to feel secure at sleep time with some easy to implement tips. What to expect of their awake time and appropriate pattern for this age will also be included in this session.

SLEEP & SETTLING - 6 TO 12 MONTHS
Now that your baby is well and truly on the move and curious about everything they see, touch and feel (it all ends up in their mouth), you will learn about what is an appropriate pattern for this age group and how to settle them safely & securely so that you all feel comfortable in what can be a tricky stage. Nutrition and milk requirements will also be covered.

INFANT MASSAGE CLASSES
Learn the basics of infant massage including;
When to massage your baby, the best oils for infant massage, how to massage your baby, safety issues that should be considered and the benefits of infant massage
The group facilitator demonstrates the strokes on a massage doll and if your baby isn’t ready to be massaged, dolls are available to use. Massage oil will be provided on the day.
